And after he'd changed his mind and we went to Brunetti for pizza a taglio and pasta instead, when the pizza arrived he said, "delizioso!" He did not know where he had learned the word from.

Spring Summer 2018

How Luca was upset that we didn't have a stall at the market because then we couldn't employ him informally and pay him a wage

How Annick explained a new game she learned at school where you have to decide whether you want to kiss, kill or marry someone or something and it is definitely called 'Kiss Calamari'.

How Annick wants to be a teacher when she grows up so she can be the one who writes on the board and Luca wants to have a shop where he sells things, "a toy warehouse, no a toy land!" With an extra big lego section

How happy I feel when I think about coming home to them

Winter 2018

Luca, on learning that the first course might be called the 'starter', decides that the next two must be called the 'middler' and the 'ender'.  Annick, meanwhile, thoughtfully wonders whether it is called an entree because it is served on a tray.

Annick: If you marry a boy, you can't have a baby. If you marry a girl, you can't have a baby.
Mama: How do you have a baby then?
Annick: Well mama, womens and mens have different parts inside their bodies.

Annick making her first French play on words, talking about a cereal called 'Puffin' - "Apres on mange des puffins, on aura pas faim!"

Luca, explaining he had eaten "hot dogs a la creme", and papa having to explain quietly that he means chocolate eclairs.

How they have been watching Masterchef and go to bed and pretend they are contestants, describing what they are about to cook to each other. "Well Luca, I'm going to cook a, um, raspberry ice cream with chocolate and caramel."  And how it evolved the next night into the toutous being on Masterchef:
- Carey Ours: Well Annick, I'm going to cook..."
- Annick: No, in Carey Ours language.
- Carey Ours: Carey Ours Carey Ours Carey Ours.
- Annick: What does that mean?
- Carey Ours: It means, I'm going to cook, um, tuna, um, tuna cream pie.

Autumn 2018

How Luca will go to get a funky new haircut at Just Cutz and will still choose from the array of videos to keep him entertained, "Peppa and George please mama"

Annick, observing an overstimulated Luca running about after breakfast, musing, "perhaps we should have a calming exercise as part of our morning routine mama."

How Annick writes Mama and Papa as 'MAMA PBPB' or sometimes, 'BPBP'.

How Annick wrote an invitation to Doudou Mouton to come to her school picnic, and addressed it to 'DDOOO MTOOO'.

How Luca will have long, querying discussions with you about "what is technology?  Is it like electricity?  Are they the same?  What can we do with technology?  Is a jet plane technology?"

How after listening to a great Fierce Girls podcast about Nancy Wake, the WW1 spy, Luca sat himself at the table and drew a 'WANTED' sign for her, the White Mouse.

Luca, looking at his calendar: What is Palm Sunday?
Me: Er... I'll tell you the story of Easter next week.
Annick: I know the story of Easter already.  It is about bunnies.
Me: Well, yes, there are two main stories of Easter, and one is about bunnies, the other is about Jesus.
Annick: What is a Jesus?

Luca: You know Captain Cook, Annick?  He's already dead.  He was a pirate who killed lots and lots of people.  He found land but he was greedy and wanted it all for himself.

Annick, passing a vase sale at the kitchen shop: Mama, look at all those wine jars!

How Annick still writes everything in mirror writing, and when showing us how she can tell her left hand from her right by making an 'L' with her fingers, gets mixed up because she can't tell which L is the right way round.

How Annick's immediate response upon regarding an immense whole salmon brought home from the fishmonger is to ask "can I touch the eyeball?"

Mama: if you had a dog, what would you name it?
Annick: I would call it Snowpea!
Luca: I would call it Michael.

Mama: if you had a car, what colour would it be?
Annick: ooh!  Golden rainbow sparkle PINK!

Mama: How was school photos today?
Annick: Good!
Mama: Did you take a photo together?
Luca: Yes.  I tried dabbing but they wouldn't let me.

Annick, getting up mid-breakfast to go to the toilet as usual: "I need to go wee wee before my next CHOMP!"

Mama: What is the difference between being seven and being eight?
Luca: Well, the bad thing about being eight is you can't wear Hot Wheels t-shirts any more.

Summer 2017/18

Luca: What is infinity time infinity?
Annick (triumphantly): BINFINITY!

How they read Tintin or Agent Jean in the morning before school and show each other the funny sequences, bursting into shared giggles.

How Luca can read enough now to actually read Andy Griffiths' The Bad Book to her, and how they both love this.

How they both excel at lo-tech entertainment - drawing, reading, dolls, Lego.  How Luca will animate a drawing and draw a battle as it happens, with sound effects and explosions and everything.

Annick: I already have a plan for school!  Number 1: I made friends already, number 2: I know everything, number 3: the puppets are funny! Number 4: (long pause) er, go outside to play.  Number 5: Go home.

Annick: a bug! Ewwwww!
Mama: Annick  a bug is just a creature on earth  just like you.
Annick: yes, but I've got underpants on. Bugs don't wear underpants.

How Annick has just blossomed at school and after not even three weeks can sing three songs in Mandarin, count to "nearly 100", sing a close enough approximation to the national anthem and has picked up phonics so fast I can't quite believe it.  Just two weeks ago she was 'writing' random strings of letters, but today wrote 'My book from home by Annick' as 'Mi B Fo Hom BiAnnick' and made a paper caterpillar labelled 'KATPLA'

How Annick talks blithely about her new friends of barely a fortnight, and talks of Tilly and Nhu and Elodie and Safa.

Mama: What did you learn at school today darling?
Annick: Well, I learned the mathematics.  And I learned to read and how to write using sounds!
Luca: I love maths mama.  I really love it.

How Luca takes the Abbotsford restaurant 'Pizza vs Burger' very seriously and considers who would actually win if they had a fight.

Spring 2017

Luca, on the way to school: Mama, my plan today is - one, get to school, two, find Kenny and play, three, go to class, four, learn things, five, have a snack, six, do some activities, seven, have lunch, eight, work some more, nine, finish school and come home!

Annick: Mama, there is an Annick shop around here and it is a shop where I sell things.
Mama: What things do you sell?
Annick: Well, ice cream, chocolate, lasagne, meat, flowers, princess dresses... and wigs!

How Annick calls her bear "Peddington"

Luca, playing some sort of boat rescue game on the sofa with his sister: Annick, don't do that!  Would you like it if someone threw you off a boat and then you got eaten by sharks?  Is that a kind thing to do?  Would you like it if it happened to you??  Annick, indignant: YES, I WOULD LIKE IT.

Luca: Oh no, my bandaid fell off!  It came off my tinkly finger!

How Luca is learning to play chess at after-care and talks about his "prawns"

Annick: You know, before you are born, you are in space and you are nudie!  You are from a planet called Nudie Holes.

Winter 2017

Luca, discussing how in the Gruffalo, the snake, the owl and the fox all want to eat the mouse, "and that's because a mouse has lots of energy".  Someone's been watching too many wildlife documentaries.

Me: Thank you for being patient today darling.
Annick: Not that patient!

How Luca will play his clapping syllable games as he goes to sleep.

How Annick will end a story to Papa with a cheerful, "et voila!"

Luca: Annick hit me with her guitar!
Annick: It is not a guitar, it is a UKULELE.

How Annick talks about literature, "mama, you know there are two kinds of books, friction and non-friction.  Friction is not real" and how she calls authors "wroters".

Luca, making pretend ice cream in the bath: "the flavour of mine is fruity pineapple flavour!  It's delicious!  It's got lots of gluten free in it!"

How the soundtrack of our life is an unfurling sticky tape dispenser.

Sitting in the warm dusk, eating ice cream by the beach in Hawaii - what is your favourite part of this holiday so far darlings?
Annick: seeing the sea turtles!
Luca: eating this ice cream right now.

Autumn 2017

Annick: Did you know it is Isaac's Day?
Me: Er, no... you mean it was his birthday?
Annick: All the Isaacs, they died.
Me: ... all... the Isaacs?  I didn't even know you had an Isaac in your class.  Do you mean the darkling beetles?
Annick: So we have to make cookies for them.  There was one, he was called Jack, and all his team mates, they died.  They died on the beach.  They came to the beach on a boat from America!  And there was a donkey who helped them.  All the Isaacs who didn't die, they rested there and they ate cookies to help their friends.

Annick: Luca hissed at me for no reason!
Luca: She was staring at me like an owl!
Annick: I was staring at you like a PRINCESS

How Annick says 'les bigs yeux' or 'les petits eyes'

Annick, rubbing her eyes in the morning: I have crumbs in my eyes!  Why do I have crumbs?
Me: It's because the Night Fairy has picnics in there.
Luca: What?!  I don't want her to!

Annick, randomly at breakfast: We can make America great again!
Me, aghast: Where did you learn that?
Annick: the radio said it!

Annick: Do you know what is world news?  It is so you can find out the news what is happening in the world that is bad.

Luca: Whoever reads the far-est, the goodest and the mostest will be the winner!

Annick: Do you know what churches are for?  They are for marrying and knowing the time.

Luca: If you make the wrong choices in class, your name goes on the board.  If you are still naughty, you have to sit by yourself.  The next one is you have to go to Hao's classroom.  Then if you are still bad, you have to go upstairs.  The next one is you have to go to Latham's office.  The next one is you have to walk with a teacher in the playground at lunchtime.  The next one is you have to take some days away from school to think about what you did.  The next one is you go to jail!  The next one is you die and you are born again as another person.

How Annick calls melaleuca trees 'lalaluca' trees.

Luca: Mama, why can't we have a big house?
Me: Because we can't afford one darling.
Luca: But we live in an apartment that is in a big building.
Me: Yes, we do.
Luca: Mama, did you and papa build the big building?  With the neighbours?  Was it a team effort?
Me: Er... no.  We don't know how to build a building, so we asked people who did know to make it.
Luca: I want to do that!  I want to build things!
Me: What would you build?
Luca: Buildings, planes, boats, rockets, machines...
Me: Well, you probably can't learn how to build ALL of those things, which one would you like most to build?
Luca: Planes, because I know how to build planes.  You put the engine in, then you cover it up with metal!

Luca, playing a clapping syllable game: Lu-ca!  That's two!  Cro-co-dile!  That's three!  Hmm... what is a word that has four? *thinks a while* Oh, I know! Pa-cio-re-tty!

Annick, musing on her perfect imaginary house: It can be made of white bricks and look like a castle, with roses!  And vines.  And there can be a dog!  No, wait, not a dog, a dog would ruin the plants.

Summer 2016/17

- Annick, drawing a book, on being asked what it is about: "They had a baby.  They called it Jack.  The mama wanted to give the baby away because of all the crying.  It cried a lot."
- Luca, after seeing plans for the proposed school improvement in the principal's office: "But the school is not broken, why do they have to fix it?" Well, even if it is not broken, it can be improved, it can be better.  "But how can they make it better?  It is so good already!"
- Annick's adoption of girl power anthems like Wannabe and Single Ladies, both the singing and the dancing.  And the girl power!

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

Spring 2016

A: Why did the plant not stand on the plant?  Because he didn't have any legs!
L: Why do I not have to press anything (runs into bedroom) and I'm invisible?
L: Why did the elephant walk with no legs, no body, no hands?  Because it pressed and had something in its hand and they're just moving, his hands, why is it doing that?
A: Why did the water move without someone moving it?  Because it was a moving jar!
A: Why did the plant stand on the plant with no wings?  Because he was standing on the ceiling!
L: Why did the aeroplane fly without wings?  And no propellors?  Because it was a little bit silly!
- Annick's performance of Let It Go continues to evolve and improve.  Although it is still a 'kingdom of mice-olation' of which she looks like she 's the queen.
- How neither of them articulate their 'sh', and so still say things like "can we go and see the so?" and "look!  There are lots of seep!"
- How Luca heard the tram announcement on the 11 that we were at 'Stop 15, King William Street' and mused that he didn't know King William Street, he just knew William St number 3.  Upon looking at the tram map, it turns out William Street is indeed number 3, and a stop that he has probably been to about half a dozen times in his entire life, and certainly not recently.  MUST REMEMBER THAT HE NOTICES AND REMEMBERS EVERYTHING.
- How Annick is still welded to the regular verb form, and "I meeted Ah Ma there", "I sitted at the table", "I goed to the market", "I swimmed in the pool".

Sunday, October 09, 2016

Winter 2016

- Realising that Annick's song that goes, "It's OK, it's just the sun" is actually the Beatles' Here Comes the Sun
- Having a conversation with Luca about past pets Hamish and Bendy - "Mama, do they exist any more?  Are they dead?  What happened?  Was it VOLCANOES?!"
- Discussing art with Annick:
M: what do you like to draw Annick?
A: people and trees and houses
M: can you draw invisible things?"
  A: No!
  M: What about dragons?
  A: Yes.
M: But how can you draw dragons, they are not real?
A: You can just use your 'MAGINATION.
M: How do you do that?
A: You close your eyes and then you imagine.
  M: Where is your imagination?
A: IT IS IN MY BOTTOM.
M: Oh really?  Is a bottom imagination different from other kinds of imagination?
A: Yes, it is more about bottoms.
- Waking up on the last day of July to hear the kids up and about and 'making breakfast'.  Annick wandered into the bathroom to inform papa what they were doing and upon his joking question "have you made the coffee yet?" she nodded, disappeared and all you could hear were negotiations to get the step, then the sound of the coffee grinder.  At this point I thought I'd better get up, only to find a loaf of fruit toast, a selection of spreads, a box of cereal and a bottle of milk ready to go on the counter.  And four little pots filled with kefir and maple syrup that Luca had thoughtfully prepared.  Quite a lot of syrup as it turned out in the end, more syrup with kefir than the other way round.  They were quite disappointed to hear that we were actually going out for breakfast.
- Luca's deliciously random non-sequitur ramblings about whatever the heck pops into his head
- Luca, asking what is 'letter' which we worked out was 'leather', because he asked if his shoes were 'letter'.  They have apparently been reading the Shoemaker's Elves at school because this appears to be where he got the concept of leather from.  I explained that my bag was leather and he touched it and asked, "but what is it?"  It's the skin of animals.  "Oh.  What kind of animals?"  Er, cows mostly.  Sheep, goats.  "But how do they peel the skin off?"  What?  They don't peel it off!  When you kill a cow for meat... "When they peel it off, the cow must get really angry!"
- all the (mostly naked) re-enactments of Olympic gymnastic routines in front of the telly coverage
- how Luca says "my tummy is wumbly" when he is hungry, or if he says it too fast, "my tumbly is wumbly."
- but how he is finally getting to grips with his 'Rs' and when I was gently teasing him about the 'Wio Olympics', he calmly corrected my pronunciation - "Not WIO mama, RIO".
- how Annick's conversation is peppered with matter of fact 'actually's.  "Well, I think that's right actually.  This is a cat actually.  I like this spaghetti actually."
- how Annick's strategies to stay up a little longer have gone past the usual needing a wee or a drink of water approaches and now encompass questions like, "don't go yet mama, I need to know something!"  What do you need to know?  "Why does the Earth turn, when it is not turning?"
- Luca, passing a WW2 memorial with some wreaths sitting at the base - "why are there flowers there?"  It's to honour people who died in the war.  "Oh.  Did they fall off the wall?"  No, not wall, war.  "What is war?"  [long pause]  War is when people fight each other.  "So did the war kill the people?"  Er, no, the people killed the people in the war.  "So if this is the war [bunches a fist] and these are the people, [wiggles fingers of other hand] then did the war go GRRRUM [fist grabs fingers] and kill them?"  Maybe we need to have this conversation another time.

Autumn 2016

- Annick, "writing" a mermaid story in a book.
Mama: what is your story about?
Annick: It is about a mermaid who doesn't want to be in the water.
  Mama: Oh!  Why not?
Annick: Because she wants to be in a castle.
Most concise telling of the Little Mermaid ever.
- Annick: "Luca, you are not biggest, you are medium-sizest."
- How Luca has suddenly started saying, in a tone of great astonishment, "oh my gosh!"
- How one of Luca's favourite games is 'Funnyworld', whereby he makes surrealist art out of Lego, mostly involving torsos and heads in bizarre scenarios.
- How Annick bosses Luca around and tells him "great job" when he's done something right
- How Angus taught Luca 'I'm the king of the castle, and you're a dirty rascal' and so now that's Luca's standard song.  Annick misheard it as 'you're a naughty squirrel'.
- How Luca's most cutting insult when he is mad is that you are "Le plus gros geant... de NASHVILLE!"
- How a new name Luca teases Annick with is "pisketti cat!"
- How Annick told Luca she was making "A inja turtle spaceship!" and Luca thought that was so cool that he would make a inja turtle spaceship too.
- How Luca peppers his play with enthusiastic cries of, "OH YEAHHHHH."
- How Annick is desperate to learn to read and write like Luca, and will do her best to outshine him when he's doing his homework
- On being told that she might have done a poo in her pants because mama could smell a caca, Annick replied indignantly, "that's just my smell!  Some girls have that smell and they keep it!"
- How they are sponges for information - Luca just absorbing and learning, and Annick who likes to pass on what she's learned, however garbled.  How they love documentaries and pop up with unexpected facts at unexpected moments.
- How if I've worked late and not seen the kids, I will go and kiss them goodnight, and Annick's eyes will flick open, and she will smile and bestow me with a kiss and a cuddle and a joyous, "mama!" and then in an instant be asleep again.
- How Annick is sadly learning the correct words for Let It Go, and so now it IS the cold that doesn't bother her anyway.

Summer 2015/16

Things to remember now:
- How Annick climbed into bed with us and wished us a 'bon matin', only to look at the little bunny she had clutched in her hand before wishing us a 'bon lapin!' and dissolving into giggles
- How the kids are getting to grips with Christmas cracker jokes and have tried creating their own.  "What is a hat lion dog?  A leaf!"
- How they don't have stomach aches, they have 'tummy eggs'.
- How Annick's favourite cold meat is a wonderful hybrid called 'panciutto'.
- How Luca pointed to a house and said, "that's the same letters as my bike!" and we realised that he was recognising the word 'warning' that was written on a home alarm system as was also written on his bike (you know, to make sure you ride the bike safely).  Reading here we come!
- How there is just SO MUCH COUNTING GOING ON.
- 12 Jan 2016: Luca fait une bêtise.  While making dinner, I hear Jason having a long, quiet conversation with Luca in his room.  I call them for dinner but they don't come.  Eventually Jason emerges and says, "Luca a fait une bêtise."  When I go in, I can't see what has happened, and ask Luca what he has done.  He points behind the door and says proudly, "it's a spaceman".  I don't think he even knew Bowie died yesterday.  And all over the wall is a vivid indigo portrait of a spaceman, as big as Luca and all lines and crosses.  I tell him it is a grosse bêtise and that he will not have any dinner, then quietly shut the door.  We eat dinner to the soundtrack of Luca weeping and wailing that he is hungry.  After some time it starts to escalate into hysteria and I know that the lesson is learnt but is about to be lost, so after a quick google, I discover that the solution is apparently just to wipe the drawing off the wall.  So I go in, wipe the wall and discover that when Crayola says 'lavable', they mean 'lavable'.  So Luca, who is complaining of hunger, is told that when he has cleaned the wall, he can have his dinner.  So he sets to the wall with a washcloth and much gnashing of teeth while Annick sits outside the room playing a harmonica, to underline the prison grit of it all, and eventually, slowly, the marvellous drawing is erased.  I wish I had taken a photo of it, but that would have validated the behaviour.  And Luca finally got his dinner, but not a passionfruit and not a dessert and he has said with more sincerity than I usually get for promises that he will not do it again.
- How Luca brought a Matt Preston cookbook to me, open to the recipe for cacio e pepe, pointed and grunted like an enthusiastic caveman at the delicious picture, then buried his face in it, pretending to eat it in snuffly glee.  Which I took as a hint I should make a cacio e pepe.
- How Annick had a little graze and Luca pointed at it, pointed at his lacerated finger, and said, "my cut is more blooder than yours Annick."
- And how mama cut her finger quite badly, bled profusely, only for Luca to calmly observe, "your blood is the same colour as mine mama!"
- But how he is learning, and on hearing mama bump into a wall and say "ow!", his little voice piped up from the other room, "are you all wight mama?" with gentle concern.
- How their favourite amusing phrase at the moment is 'chicken booster' as in 'you're a chicken booster!  That's a chicken booster letterbox!"
- How butt jokes are still the best jokes of all, and make for statements such as Luca's "hey mama, what if you have a telescope and you look in the telescope at the moon and the moon looks like a BUTT?  Hahahahahahahahahaha!"
- How Luca has taken to school like a duck to water and will surprise you with what he's learned for the day, such as coming home and writing up the numbers 1 to 10 in Chinese, complete with counting as he goes, with pretty good tone.  Or giving mama an impromptu (and somewhat patronising) lesson in shapes on the walk home, saying things like, "I give you an easy one mama, what is this shape?" Er, is it a square?  "No mama, it's a wectangle because it is longer.  That was a twicky one for you!"
- How Annick still says things like, "I a little bit tursty mama" and likes to load up her imperfects, using sentences like, "I putteded it there" and "he goeded away".
- Annick: How do you make water?
Mama: Er, how do you think you make water?
Annick: (thinks)  Well, you get some hot water.  And then you get some liquid.  And you mix them together.  And then you have water!  And it is quite good when you put a little bit of cheese.
- Luca, counting for fun while he's in the toilet, announces, "my wee is 12 metres!"  Counts some more, announces, "my caca is seven metres!"  Long pause.  "The smell is NINETY NINE, pewwww!"

Spring 2015

Things to remember for now:
- How when they hear something they like, they say "yoo hoo!" to celebrate.  "We're going to eat some cake?  Yoo hoo!"
- How Annick is all about her doudou mouton these days.
- How Luca pretends to be a little motorboat who is tired after a long day before going to bed, and has to turn off his motor (his tired little legs)
- How Luca makes up convoluted and often baffling narrations to his play
- How Annick sets her ridiculous narration to song
- How we thought the crazy tantrum phase had passed, but really, it hadn't.  And how Annick spends a lot of any supermarket visit wailing in self-pity on the floor.
- How Luca loves to wear runners because they make him "so fast!"
- How Annick teaches mama songs from daycare - "Mini, mini, mini, big red bus!  Ferrari Ferrari."
- How Annick is all about the casual nudity
- Conversations as we walk the back streets of Richmond and pass a company called Rocket Catering, who have a rocket in their window:
  - Luca: Look, there is a rocket!  Why is there a rocket??
  - Annick: Well, a long long time ago, around here there were no houses.  Only wocket ships."
- How Annick is full of good advice: "Mama, if you eat honey and then you brush your teeth, that's more good."  "Mama, if you do this," *makes fist, punches wall* "then it will hurt."
- How Luca is all about the ships right now, seriously, so many boats.
- How Luca has his little ritual dance that has to be done just right when we read Tralalire and say, "Bienvenue chez Cacahouete, Pouet Pouet et Patatras!"
- How their concept of time is still off - if they have never done something before, they have not done it "for a long long time" and if they did something at any point in the past, it always happened "the other day".
- How Annick calls dessert "second clourse" and how one of her friends at daycare is "Claitlin" and her swim teacher is "Grabbi".
- How Luca is all about numbers and counting, although "after nointeen mama is twenty-two".  But he has grasped basic concepts of addition and subtraction and can count several hundreds up in both languages with only minimal assistance.
- How they will talk and talk and talk in the dark in their little beds (or sometimes hop in together) when they have been apart for the day, because there is so much to catch up on.  (and sometimes, if you tell them to go to sleep, Annick will tell you, "I am telling Luca about my day!")  I think Luca going to school next year is going to be a big deal.
- How for Annick, 'any' means 'none', as in "there is anything in this box mama" or "there is anyone who wants that"

July/August 2015

Things to remember this month (and the next):

- How their languages still mélange un peu, so Luca will say things like, "when are my Octonauts culottes sechées so I can put them in my drawer of underwear?" or speaks about his "pyjamas of space".
- How Annick has taken to putting Luca in his room for "two minutes!" punishment in a tone worryingly similar to papa or maman when they are angry.
- How Annick is all about exploring and rescuing and being a firefighter in her outdoor play at the moment - "let's go to the park!  I will SAVE A CAT."  (and then Luca says, "and I will save TWENTY THREE DOGS.")
- How Luca is super-competitive and everything has to be equal unless he is gaining an advantage, in which case it is totally fair.  Even coming down to how many sips from a cup of juice he or Annick might have.
- Maman: what do you want for breakfast darling?
Annick: A bun and an egg!
Maman: OK, what kind of egg?
Annick: (thinks for a while) ...a chicken egg!
Maman: Er, that's not quite what I meant...
Annick: It comes out of the BUTT!
- How Annick is super-adorable at the moment, with her little songs and her funny stories and her daggy dancing.  And we've realised she is past the crazy tantrum phase she was stuck in for... MONTHS.  Meltdowns still take place, but with far less frequency.
- How Luca is all about the extremely wet kisses, joyously so
- How Annick toilet trained in about three days thanks to the additional pressure of daycare.  If I'd known that's all it was going to take, I would have sent her to daycare in knickers months ago.
- How Luca has started to do basic addition and is showing great pride in his skills.  His phonics seems to have actually come along a bit too.
- How the two of them have decided they will just sleep in the same bed now, to facilitate story-telling, giggling, adventures and chats.  Sometimes it gets out of hand and they have to go back to their own beds, but otherwise they like to snooze next to each other.

Annick's drawings continue to improve - here is the family (starting with little Papa and ending with tall gigantic Annick)
